Overview

Shropshire Council are looking for a suitably experienced Debt Recovery Officer to provide efficient and effective recovery of sundry debt and adult social care charges as a member of the Council’s Debt Recovery Team. We are seeking a Debt Recovery Officer who has experience of working in debt recovery and managing a wide portfolio of debtor accounts. With experience of using a debt recovery/sales ledger system, working knowledge of debt recovery procedures and competent in the use of IT including Microsoft packages.

You will have excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate with customers and other departments within the Council. You will have the ability to manage and resolve complex queries and identify the appropriate processes and procedures to follow and make judgements within these.

Responsibilities

  • Recover sundry debt and adult social care charges as part of the Debt Recovery Team
  • Manage a wide portfolio of debtor accounts
  • Use a debt recovery/sales ledger system and apply debt recovery procedures
  • Utilise IT skills, including Microsoft packages, to support recovery activities
  • Communicate effectively with customers and other Council departments
  • Manage and resolve complex queries and determine appropriate processes and procedures
  • Make informed judgements within established procedures

Qualifications

  • Experience of working in debt recovery and managing a portfolio of debtor accounts
  • Experience using a debt recovery/sales ledger system
  • Working knowledge of debt recovery procedures
  • Competence in IT, including Microsoft packages
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to manage and resolve complex queries and apply appropriate processes
