Asset Planning Sponsor (Wastewater Treatment)

A permanent opportunity to join Yorkshire Water’s Wastewater area as an Asset Planning Sponsor. The role involves planning and delivering capital interventions to enhance wastewater treatment works and terminal pumping stations, ensuring regulatory compliance and business performance.

Work type

Permanent. 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

Base Location

The role covers the Yorkshire area with a flexible hybrid arrangement, with an expectation of site visits across the region.

Responsibilities

Asset Planning Sponsors work as part of a project team ensuring the correct capital intervention is provided on wastewater assets. The role requires:

  • Specific accountabilities within the end‑to‑end process.
  • Ensuring the Business Need and Solution in the Enterprise Decision Analytics (EDA) system are correctly and fully created.
  • Owning the Concept and Definition phases to ensure risk and solution are fully understood.
  • Preparing the Pre‑Construction Information (PCI) at the earliest opportunity to ensure compliance with Construction Design Management (CDM) regulations.
  • Ensuring the Scope defined at the end of the Definition phase meets business need and is delivered through the project lifecycle (time, resources, benefit realisation).
  • Ensuring sign off and funding approval at Gate 1 (concept) and Gate 3 (pre‑delivery) of the AMP process.
  • Providing any required support to Gate 2 (definition) and Gate 4 (financial approvals).
  • Agreeing escalation triggers with the Project Team.
  • Identifying and confirming training requirements.
  • Supporting the Project Manager throughout all project phases.
  • Agreeing scope of Investigation with the Project Team to confirm solution requirements at Gate 3.
  • Responding to escalations as requested by the Project Team.
  • Understanding the project risk profile and mitigation plans.
  • Agreeing changes to time, cost, and quality.
  • Providing technical support for high‑profile, complex wastewater treatment issues.
  • Confirming remedial works, maintenance plans and task activities are undertaken post‑scheme.
  • Taking part in the Project Review Process.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Engineering and/or Science/process knowledge and experience of relevant asset base and its operation.
  • Risk Management experience (IAM certificate desirable).
  • Detailed understanding of Performance Commitments.
  • Strong influencing, communication and negotiation skills.
  • Proven experience in asset management or within a capital investment setting.
  • Understanding of site process safety – representation in Hazard Study Process.
  • Ability to conduct root cause analysis.
  • Full UK Driving Licence (no more than 6 points).
