Trust Doctor (eqv. to ST3+) in Geriatric and rehabilitation Medicine

Fixed Term 12 months. Whipps Cross Hospital. The post will be based at Ainslie rehabilitation unit (north of Chingford). The role is within the department of Older People’s Services at Whipps Cross Hospital, recruited on behalf of NELFT.

Main duties of the job and responsibilities

The successful applicant will develop individualised educational goals, develop clinical skills in geriatric and rehabilitation medicine, and may gain audit, research, or teaching experience by linking up with the Whipps Cross team. Supportive culture and rewards. Full MRCP is desirable; MRCP 1 or equivalent may be considered. Current full registration with GMC is required and experience across a broad range of medical subspecialties is needed. Ainslie Rehabilitation Unit serves a local population with high frailty and multi morbidity.

Qualifications

  • Full GMC Registration with License to Practice
  • Evidence of participation in research (peer reviewed publication(s) etc.)
  • Full MRCP 2

Experience

  • Broad experience in Geriatrics and G(I)M
  • Current ALS certificate
  • Higher trainee equivalent experience in Geriatric Medicine
  • Sub specialty experience in rehabilitation medicine

Knowledge

  • Detailed knowledge of Geriatrics and G(I)M, rehabilitation medicine specialist skills required for this post
  • Knowledge of multidisciplinary clinical audit/quality improvement and commitment to improving quality of care to patients
  • Understanding of modern medical curricula and commitment to life long learning
  • Completion of a post graduate qualification in Geriatric Medicine (e.g. Diploma in Geriatric Medicine, Specialty Certificate Examination (SCE

Skills

  • Ability to work as part of a multi disciplinary team
  • Experience of supervising medical staff
  • Ability to teach medical students and junior medical and nursing staff
  • Ability to manage staff and resources effectively
  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, patients, relatives, GPs, nurses and other agencies
  • IT skills
