Working 36.5 hours per week.

Birmingham City Council is seeking a skilled and motivated Gas Contracts Works Officer to oversee gas servicing, repairs, and capital works across a defined area of up to 23,000 council properties. The role ensures contractors deliver safe, compliant, and high‑quality work in both domestic and commercial settings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee Repairs, Maintenance and Capital Works contractors, ensuring all gas‑related tasks comply with regulations and manufacturer guidance.
  • Inspect and diagnose building defects in low‑rise and high‑rise blocks, arranging remedial works through nominated contractors.
  • Carry out audits on gas servicing, repairs, and new installations.
  • Ensure compliance with gas safety legislation, Awaab’s Law, Section 11 and Section 82.
  • Support gas works in commercial environments such as schools.
  • Produce clear reports and follow up on corrective actions.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Current ACS qualifications: CCN1, CENWAT, CKR1, DAH1, HTR1.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in the gas industry.
  • Experience in domestic and commercial gas work.
  • Understanding of social housing and landlord responsibilities.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Strong technical understanding of gas safety and compliance.
  • Ability to assess contractor work, diagnose defects, and identify risks.
  • Confident communicator with strong organisational skills.
