Shift Leader rate of pay starts from £15.59 an hour; this increases to £16.86 for stores inside the M25. Additional payments may also apply depending on location.
We offer new colleagues a minimum of 16 guaranteed hours each week. If you’d like to work fewer hours (to a minimum of 12) we also have opportunities for this.
Shift Leader responsibilities include:
- Work in a fast‑paced retail environment.
- Take ownership of running duty shifts and coordinate the team to deliver a clean, well‑stocked store that exceeds customer expectations.
- Serve customers by listening to them and ensuring they leave with what they came for.
- Look for ways to improve service, coaching colleagues and giving feedback.
- Guide and support colleagues in‑store, ensuring a safe place to work and shop.
- Understand store performance and assist managers in delivering improvements.
- Lead from the front, setting a great example for colleagues.
- Coordinate the store team to deliver an easy, fuss‑free shopping experience.
- Support colleagues, ensuring they deliver daily priorities and take regular breaks.
- Open and close the store, completing duty cover and ensuring decisions are made for everyone’s safety.
- Serve as go‑to person for colleagues in the absence of a manager for day‑to‑day queries.
- Ensure the store is always clean, tidy, and well‑presented.
- Support managers in coordinating seasonal, community and charity events.
- Contribute to a great team atmosphere that is inclusive of everyone.
- Provide great customer service by listening and putting customers first.
- Keep the team well‑informed and up‑to‑date on communications, changes, or updates.
- Stay knowledgeable about store performance and look for ways to improve and simplify operations.
- Coordinate store improvements and remove obstacles to great service.
- Follow health & safety routines and procedures, ensuring colleagues do the same.
- Recognise and celebrate colleagues who provide great service.
- Be a role model, giving thoughtful customer service and ensuring every customer’s needs are met.
- Build strong, long‑lasting relationships with colleagues to create a positive and inclusive team atmosphere.
- Communicate clearly, using various methods to keep the team informed.
- Lead and oversee the store in the absence of the manager.
- Make good decisions, adapt flexibly, and handle change to keep everything right for customers and colleagues.
- Motivate the team to deliver beyond expectations.
- Be curious, looking for ideas and opportunities to serve customers, communities, and the planet better each day.
Requirements:
- Minimum 18 years of age.
- Eligibility to work in the UK as per local regulations.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including early morning and late evening shifts where required.
- Basic computer skills and ability to use retail software.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
