Job Title: Constituency Support Officer

Hours: Full time (40 per week)

Location: Working primarily from Forfar office with travel across constituency on ad hoc basis

Length of contract: Permanent

Overview

This role offers experience supporting an MP with constituency work, including dealing with casework and handling enquiries from members of the public. The Angus and Perthshire Glens office is a fast‑paced, supportive environment to work in.

The successful candidate will be confident in a public‑facing role, handle enquiries from the public, and have a good understanding of constituency issues. They will be motivated, enthusiastic, possess excellent administrative and organisational skills, and be able to prioritise their workload.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responding to routine correspondence and enquiries from constituents, lobbyists and pressure groups
  • Managing and progressing a portfolio of casework, ensuring all cases are logged, actions taken, and progress monitored at regular intervals
  • Ensuring records are kept and information is managed confidentially and in line with the Data Protection Act
  • Analysing, evaluating and interpreting data to keep the Member accurately informed on key issues
  • Attending surgeries & meetings across the constituency
  • Developing knowledge in specialist areas (casework, reserved matters for the UK Parliament and constituency issues)
  • Liaising with other office staff, MSPs, councillors, government agencies, the voluntary sector and others to resolve constituency matters
  • Driving licence and own transportation required for attendance at events across the constituency
  • Dealing with and prioritising a varied caseload and working well under pressure
  • Working independently with minimal supervision and as part of a small team
  • Exhibiting excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Drafting letters and emails to the highest professional standard
  • Developing knowledge in specialist areas and undertaking professional training as required
  • Sympathetic to the aims and values of the Scottish National Party
  • Experience in a customer‑facing role

Notes

This post will require some travel within the constituency and occasional travel to Westminster for attendance at meetings, surgeries, trainings and other events.

There may be a requirement for the role holder to work outside normal working hours occasionally.

Upon appointment you will be required to comply with the Baseline Personnel Security Standard, undertaken by the Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO).
