About the Role
The Speech, Language and Literacy Outreach Service is seeking dedicated Learning Support Staff to help improve outcomes for pupils with significant and persistent literacy and/or speech & language difficulties across Wrexham. This rewarding role focuses on delivering structured, evidence‑based literacy and speech & language interventions to children and young people, working both one‑to‑one and in small groups across schools. You’ll play a vital part in helping pupils overcome barriers to learning and access the wider curriculum with growing confidence.
Working closely with others in the team, school staff, families, and external professionals, you will support assessment delivery, monitor progress, and contribute to planning next steps for each learner. The role also involves helping pupils generalise newly developed skills into the classroom, promoting dyslexia‑friendly and communication‑friendly approaches, and adapting strategies to meet a wide range of additional learning needs, including complex and co‑occurring needs. One of the Support Staff roles will be designated to work within the Welsh cluster, supporting Welsh‑medium schools and pupils and contributing to literacy and speech & language intervention delivered through the medium of Welsh.
We’re looking for committed, compassionate individuals with relevant experience or qualifications in education and literacy or speech & language development, who are passionate about inclusion and evidence‑based practice. In return, you’ll join a collaborative and supportive service that values professional learning, teamwork, and making a meaningful difference to the lives of learners across the local authority.
An Enhanced DBS is required for this position.
