Position: Trainee Pre‑Registration Pharmacy Technician (Apprentice)
Join Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust as a Pre‑Registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician in our Pharmacy team based at Whiston and St Helens Hospitals. This is a 2‑year fixed term training post of 37.5 hours per week, working towards successful completion of the Pharmacy Technician (Integrated) Level 3 qualification and eventual registration with the GPhC.

Responsibilities
- Assist in the receipt, dispensing, and final accuracy checking of prescriptions, including controlled drugs, while adhering to safe working practices.
- Participate in the trainee technicians rota across all pharmacy areas, including inpatient and outpatient dispensing, pharmacy stores, medicine information, and aseptic dispensing units.
- Assist with stock control, stock requisition, payment collection, and preparation and assembly of supplies for delivery to wards and departments.
- Assist in the preparation and dispensing of extemporaneous medicines, aseptically prepared products, and cytotoxic drugs using appropriate equipment and safety measures.
- Assist in the provision of individual dose dispensing and blister packing services, and prepare resuscitation and anaphylaxis boxes as per Trust policy.
- Answer phone calls and queries from patients and healthcare professionals, referring to the appropriate person when necessary.
- Participate in weekend, evening, bank holiday, and on‑call rosters as required.
- Use the pharmacy computer system responsibly and accurately for all duties requiring data input.
- Assist in departmental audit and research projects to improve service provision.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum of 4 GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade C/4, including Maths, English, and Science.
- Alternatively, 2 years of pharmacy experience and an NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services (or equivalent) is acceptable, provided a science assessment is passed.
- Must be able to provide original certificates or certified copies of all required qualifications at interview.
- Commitment to completing the Pharmacy Technician (Integrated) Level 3 apprenticeship and all associated work‑based projects and college assignments.

Working Hours & Salary
37.5 hours per week; annual salary £25,760 to £27,476.
