Medical Secretary – Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Orthodontics

We have an opportunity to join the OMFS and Orthodontic department as a medical secretary supporting the consultants and their teams.
We are looking for a highly organised individual, with excellent communication skills and the ability to work on their own initiative to meet the needs of a very busy department. The ideal candidate will be able to remain calm under pressure, and be flexible and adaptable to support both the team and patients.
Main duties of the job
- Provide a full and comprehensive medical secretarial service to support the consultants, clinicians and reception team in the OMFS and Orthodontics Department.
- Act as the first point of contact for patients and staff, other hospital departments, dentists and external agencies.

Person Specification
Qualifications
- Post‑GCSE qualification e.g. A level, Advanced apprenticeship, NVQ 3 or equivalent experience
- Previous experience of working in a medical secretary role
Specific Skills
- IT literate including knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel)
- Highly effective administrative and organisational skills to produce work of a high standard with attention to detail
- Ability to prioritise and organise workload effectively
- Knowledge of and prior experience using Trust computer systems (e.g. Millennium)
Knowledge and experience
- Knowledge of good office and administrative practice
- Previous experience of working in a customer/patient focused environment
