Location: Waltham Forest, LondonType: Full-Time (Monday-Friday, 8:30am-4:00pm)Pay: 425-525 per week (weekly pay)

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a Year 1 pupil with Autism in a welcoming primary school in Waltham Forest.

The successful candidate must have previous experience working with SEN children in a school setting, with strong phonics experience and the ability to support learning across all key stages. This is a full-time role and is ideal for someone passionate about supporting children with additional needs to thrive both academically and emotionally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one support for a Year 1 pupil with Autism, supporting learning, engagement, and emotional regulation
  • Support the delivery of phonics sessions and early reading activities in line with the school’s phonics scheme
  • Assist the class teacher in adapting lessons to meet individual learning needs
  • Implement IEPs, behaviour plans, and structured routines consistently
  • Support the development of communication, social skills, and independence
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals
  • Monitor and record pupil progress and provide feedback to the teaching team
  • Support pupils across different key stages when required

Essential Requirements

  • Previous experience working with SEN children in a school setting (ESSENTIAL)
  • Experience supporting pupils with Autism
  • Phonics experience (e.g., Read Write Inc, Letters and Sounds, or similar)
  • Experience working across EYFS, KS1, KS2 or multiple key stages
  • A patient, nurturing, and proactive approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Commitment to full-time work

Desirable

  • Relevant qualification in education or SEN support
  • Additional training in behaviour management or autism support
