Role Overview
As an Assistant Food Designer, you will support the development and enhancement of food products in line with market trends and consumer preferences. The role involves creating innovative recipes, refining existing formulations, and ensuring products meet the highest standards of quality, consistency, and profitability. This position is primarily based at Media City and Haydock, with flexibility for remote working and occasional travel within Europe to support trial activities. Most responsibilities will be carried out at our Culinary Centre in Haydock and manufacturing facilities, so flexibility to travel between locations is essential. You will report directly into one of the Team leaders, as part of the Productivity & Network Optimization team structure, and work closely with cross‑functional teams to deliver projects from concept through to production, ensuring efficient and seamless execution throughout the development process.
Responsibilities
- Innovation & Renovation – Modify existing products in line with cost‑optimisation business directives, ensuring business continuity through a fast, proactive approach to delivery. Support innovation and renovation projects as allocated, collaborating cross‑functionally across multiple project workstreams.
- Testing – Drive project workstreams including ingredient assessment, prototype bench work, and coordination/attendance of production plant trials. Ensure all tasks are completed in line with project requirements, delivered on time, within budget, and aligned with business expectations.
- Proactivity – Respond quickly to critical business continuity workstreams as they arise, collaborating cross‑functionally to ensure timely and effective delivery.
- Research – Support research initiatives within consumer markets through prototype or plant‑produced samples, ensuring all quality requirements are consistently met.
- Procurement – Ensure ingredients used during development or renovation are assessed in line with policy approval processes. Work closely with procurement teams to align with business cost strategies, striving for optimised costs without detrimental impact on food quality.
Qualifications
- Previous technical knowledge and experience in food development
- A passion for creative product development within the food sector
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment
- A proactive, results‑driven mindset, with a strong focus on keeping the consumer at the centre of everything we do
