The Role

As a Domestic Assistant within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, you will play an essential role in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Working across clinical and non‑clinical areas, your contribution will directly support high standards of patient care and infection prevention. Duration, Location, and Working Pattern

Location: Vale of Leven Hospital.

  • Two positions available: one 31.20 hours per week, the other 14.4 hours per week – please outline your preference in your application.
  • Working Monday to Friday.
  • Salary is pro‑rata for part‑time hours.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high‑quality cleaning services across wards, departments and public areas in line with national standards.
  • Follow cleaning schedules and procedures to ensure a safe and hygienic environment at all times.
  • Safely use cleaning equipment and materials in accordance with training and safety guidance.
  • Support ward‑based duties, including food and beverage service, where required.
  • Dispose of waste appropriately and maintain infection control standards, including colour coding systems.
  • Respond to service needs and prioritise workload to meet daily demands and timeframes.
  • Maintain a professional, courteous approach when interacting with patients, visitors and staff.

Qualifications Required

  • Knowledge of domestic cleaning services gained through induction and on‑the‑job training.
  • Understanding of health and safety, COSHH and infection control procedures.
  • Ability to safely use cleaning equipment and follow operational procedures.
  • Good communication and customer care skills with a professional and respectful manner.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team with a flexible approach.
  • Awareness of manual handling practices and safe working methods.
  • Elementary Food Hygiene certification or willingness to work towards this.
