Job Overview

Dorset Travel is seeking a Peripatetic Passenger Assistant to support children and young people with additional needs. The role is contracted at approximately 20 hours per week during term time, living in the Poole area, and commencing at £13.05 per hour.

Responsibilities

The Passenger Assistant will ensure a safe journey for children and young people to and from home or school, provide additional support as required, and adhere to all safety and safeguarding procedures.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Knowledge of moderate and complex learning needs.
  • An understanding of safeguarding children.
  • Recognition of hazards and the ability to report them.
  • Customer care skills.
  • Physical fitness: able to run, bend, stretch, push, pull, lift, carry, and kneel.

Training & Development

Full Training Is Provided Covering

  • Safeguarding
  • Manual Handling
  • Emergency First Aid
  • Customer Care

Peripatetic Passenger Assistants are required to undertake additional medical training in: Administration of Buccal Midazolam, Application of EpiPen.

Additional Requirements

  • Must have business insurance and your own vehicle for the role.
  • Subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service check.

Salary and Working Hours

Pro‑rata salary based on the number of hours, weeks worked, and paid annual leave entitlements. Adjustments may be made to reflect holiday entitlement and final payments.
