We are seeking an experienced Senior Fire Safety Officer with a strong commitment to customer service and a professional, proactive approach. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring fire safety compliance programmes are delivered on time and to the highest standards.

You will demonstrate strong leadership and management capability, alongside sound commercial and financial awareness. A genuine passion for fire safety, combined with a thorough understanding of current fire safety legislation, is essential.

This role plays a crucial part in shaping and enhancing service delivery. Applicants should have proven experience within the fire safety sector, including managing complex fire safety programmes, and an understanding of both the challenges and rewards associated with this work. You will be a collaborative team player with the creativity and problem‑solving skills required to overcome operational challenges effectively.

Key responsibilities

  • Support the development, implementation, and maintenance of comprehensive fire safety policies and procedures for all residential properties.
  • Conduct regular fire safety inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance as per regulations.
  • Provide fire safety training as and when required.
  • Support with regular fire drills for staff and residents, to ensure preparedness in case of emergencies.
  • Investigate fire incidents, prepare detailed reports, and recommend corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
  • Support with the overall delivery of a programme of fire risk assessments for the Housing Stock profile, undertaking quality checks of reports undertaken by both internal and external assessors.
  • Oversee the delivery of Compartmentation programmes and other fire safety works across the housing stock profile, providing technical solutions to support a safe and compliant building.
  • Upon occasion, undertake fire risk assessments to buildings within the housing stock profile.
  • Undertaking post inspections of all fire safety works to ensure quality workmanship and compliant solutions have been applied. Post inspection reports will be undertaken to evidence this.
  • Stay updated on the latest fire safety regulations and ensure all buildings within the Housing Stock profile comply with these standards.
  • Provide expert advice on fire safety measures during the design and construction of new buildings and renovations.
  • To deliver a consistent approach to contract management and proactively identify new opportunities for efficiencies in service delivery.
  • Responsible for ensuring all fire safety related contracts are managed and delivered efficiently and effectively against agreed performance targets.
  • Report on key performance indicators in line with agreed performance reporting timescales.
  • To assist with the procurement of contractors and suppliers along with the development of specifications and evaluation of contracts in conjunction with key stakeholders.
  • Update the Council’s compliance system with all fire safety related data, certifications, risk assessments etc to ensure statutory compliance.
  • Exercise budgetary and effective financial management controls.
  • Embed a strong performance culture and commitment to customer experience and satisfaction, ensuring the delivery of high‑quality services.
  • Ensure financial, technical, investment and assurance information is provided to the Safety, Health and Compliance Manager in a timely and consistent manner.
  • To support the Safety, Health and Compliance Team in ensuring all property related asset data, including any observations & recommendations, is collated from all relevant sources and is used to assist in the identification of future Capital programmes.
  • Support the asset and maintenance planning cycle and contribute to the development of organisational strategies.
  • Act as a point of escalation for the resolution of complaints and other issues from whatever source they may originate.
  • Fully conversant and compliant with Procurement Directives.
  • Prepare and present reports to Committees of the Council.

A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes is essential, and you’ll need to demonstrate a real passion to provide excellent customer service.
