This is an executive leadership role that is responsible for ensuring operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and strategic growth through efficient supply chain and distribution management, transportation logistics, and customer-focused service delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coach, lead, support and inspire the Logistics team, enabling all team members to achieve their key objectives, focusing on a desire to establish a high-performing culture
  • Develop and implement strategic logistics plans to optimise transportation efficiency, reduce costs, and improve overall logistics performance, along with the capacity to facilitate future growth
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align logistics strategies with business objectives across the company
  • Drive solutions pragmatically to react to changing market conditions
  • Leads and directs maintenance activities of the fleet, equipment, and all systems, ensuring maximum utilisation with minimum downtime and restricting added costs
  • Develops and directs robust contingency protocols to avoid business disruption
  • Partners collaboratively with Sales, Marketing and Procurement to resolve any customer or delivery issues, visiting customers where necessary to promote stronger working relationships
  • Continuously improves operational strategies and processes, having a key focus on innovation
  • To own the budget for the entire logistics function, leading and directing all aspects of operational performance, adjusting activities to meet, or exceed, financial targets.
  • Negotiate contracts with transportation service providers to ensure the right balance of cost and service delivery
  • Collaborate with Operations & Procurement to have an in-depth knowledge of the Company’s inventory, helping to achieve optimum cashflow and customer service levels.
  • Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure logistics performance
  • Ensure full compliance with UK regulations and industry standards
  • Stay updated on industry trends and best practices to bring innovation to the logistics function

The person:

  • Degree educated with business experience in Logistics, Operations Management, Supply Chain, or a related field
  • Has demonstrated consistent career progression within a leading 3PL or FMCG organisation, with responsibility for the company’s ‘O’ Licence
  • Proven track record in strategic planning, operational execution, and logistics management.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, with an ability to foster an environment of teamwork and cooperation
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to be able to present to stakeholders & partners at all levels, demonstrating engagement & influence
  • Ability to adapt to changing business environments and implement innovative solutions to address logistics challenges
  • Excellent analytical and project management skills, with the scope to manage numerous initiatives and projects simultaneously
  • Proven ability to manage budgets and liaise effectively with key stakeholders regarding budgetary deliverables
  • Proven track record of negotiating contracts and the managing of relationships with logistics service providers
  • Profound knowledge & understanding of digitalisation opportunities and corresponding (IT) tools
  • Proficiency in logistics software, management systems, data analytics tools, and ERP systems
  • Key experience within Continuous Improvement with the ability to identify inefficiencies, implement improvements, and make data-driven decisions
