Lead Behaviour Support Officer – Queen Elizabeth High School, Carmarthen

Salary: £36,829 – £41,457

Contract type: Permanent Term Time Only, 35 hours per week (based on 37 hourly rate of £19.09‑£21.45). Full‑time salary quoted (based on 37 hrs) pro‑rata accordingly.

Location: Carmarthen, Carmarthenshire. Grade: H + 4 %.

About the role

Required for September 2026, this role is central to embedding a Trauma‑Informed approach within the school. The successful candidate will support young people with diverse emotional and social needs, fostering a safe, supportive environment where pupils can succeed.

The role involves supporting staff to build classrooms on strong, positive relationships and engaging proactively with parents and carers.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing behaviour support to pupils in accordance with the school’s policies.
  • Collaborating with teaching and non‑teaching staff to develop strategies for managing challenging behaviour.
  • Working with parents/carers to share information and promote positive outcomes.
  • Maintaining accurate records and contributing to the school’s trauma‑informed care plans.

Key qualifications and requirements

Qualifications, skills and experience

  • Relevant teaching qualification or experience in working with pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs.
  • Experience in trauma‑informed practice or willingness to undertake training.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to demonstrate empathy and resilience.
  • Basic knowledge of Welsh (Level 1). Reasonable support will be provided to reach this level.
  • Enhanced DBS check with barred list extension (or evidence of being fit to engage in regulated activity).
