Job Summary

The post holder will be undertaking an apprenticeship programme within the Leeds Teaching Hospital NHS Trust (LTHT). The training will be delivered through formal education delivered by the School of Dental Technology situated within LTHT, in collaboration with the University of Greater Manchester. As part of your training, you will be expected to travel to the University of Greater Manchester one day per week, departing Leeds Dental Institute at 7:30 am and leaving the University at 4:30 pm at no cost to you.

You will also gain work placement experience at commercial dental laboratories during your third year of training. On successful completion of the course, you will be awarded a FdSc Foundation Degree Dental Technology, which will enable you to apply as a Dental Care Professional with the General Dental Council (GDC).

Training & Placement

The apprenticeship programme covers laboratory placements where you will construct and provide routine dental devices under the supervision of a registered Dental Technician. You will use laboratory procedures and guidelines to support the delivery of high-standard service to patients, staff and Trust departments.

Requirements

  • Eligibility criteria for the Apprenticeship as described in the job description
  • Motivated, keen to learn, reliable, trustworthy; flexible approach to duties and working practices; friendly manner; good manual dexterity; basic keyboard skills; good interpersonal skills; able to work within agreed procedures and guidelines; team working
  • General education equivalent of Level 3 qualification in any subject, sciences preferred (prerequisite for the apprenticeship programme)
  • Four GCSEs at level 4 grade including Maths and English
  • Good standard of written and spoken English
  • Basic computer knowledge
  • No requirement for prior experience of Dental technology; insight into duties and responsibilities of post is essential
