Pupil Support Worker – SEMH Setting (Secondary)
Portsmouth, Hampshire
£89 per day (equivalent to £21,800+ term time)
Full Time | Long-Term / Fixed Term
Do you want to be the reason a young person finally feels safe enough to learn?
We’re working with a specialist SEMH setting in Portsmouth looking for a Pupil Support Worker to support students in Key Stages 3 & 4 who need something different from mainstream education.
This isn’t a standard classroom role.
These are students who need consistency, patience and someone firmly in their corner. Progress doesn’t always look like perfect work – sometimes it’s simply showing up, engaging, or trusting an adult for the first time.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Building strong, trusting relationships with students
- Supporting pupils in lessons, 1:1 and in small groups
- Helping students regulate emotions and re-engage with learning
- Providing calm, consistent support during challenging moments
- Supporting positive behaviour using trauma-informed approaches
- Working closely with teachers and wider support staff
Who This Role Is Perfect For
- Someone who sees beyond behaviour
- Calm, resilient and emotionally intelligent individuals
- People with experience in:
- SEMH settings
- Behaviour support
- Youth work
- Care / support work
- Someone who doesn’t give up on tough days
What Makes This Role Different
- Smaller class sizes and more personalised support
- A strong team culture – you’re never on your own
- A setting that values progress over perfection
- A genuinely rewarding role where you see real change
Requirements
- Experience working with children or young people
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
- DBS on the Update Service
- Up to date safeguarding training
If you’re the kind of person who celebrates the small wins, stays calm under pressure and wants to make a real difference – this is the role for you.
