Job Title: Conveyancing Assistant / Residential Property Paralegal
Department: Property Law (Residential Conveyancing)
Location: Grays, Essex
Salary: £30,000 – £50,000 (DOE)
Reporting Line: Senior Conveyancer / Head of Department
Hours: Full-time
The Opportunity
An established legal practice is looking to recruit an experienced Conveyancing Assistant / Paralegal to join its busy residential property team. This position offers the chance to be closely involved in a broad range of property transactions, supporting senior fee earners while also taking ownership of key elements of the conveyancing process.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day support to fee earners handling residential property matters from instruction through to post-completion
- Assist with a range of transactions including sales, purchases, re-mortgages, and equity transfers
- Take clear and accurate client instructions, ensuring confidentiality and professionalism at all times
- Prepare, check, and manage legal documentation and correspondence in line with firm procedures
- Carry out property searches, title investigations, and contract reviews as part of the due diligence process
- Communicate effectively with clients, lenders, estate agents, solicitors, and third parties to facilitate smooth progress of transactions
- Review lender requirements and ensure all conditions are met in accordance with instructions
- Submit applications to the Land Registry and handle SDLT filings within required deadlines
- Maintain accurate file records and ensure all case management systems are consistently updated
- Respond to client queries promptly, escalating complex matters where appropriate
- Support wider administrative functions within the department as required
Skills & Experience
- At least 3 years’ experience in a residential conveyancing support role
- Solid understanding of the end-to-end conveyancing process
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team
- Proactive approach to problem-solving and workload management
- Good working knowledge of relevant conveyancing regulations and procedures
Desirable Attributes
- Formal legal training or qualifications (e.g. Law degree, CILEX or equivalent)
- Experience using case management systems such as LEAP, Actionstep, or similar platforms
