Overview
This position is crucial in the healthcare system, as Mental Health Care Assistants play a vital role in helping individuals manage their mental health conditions and improve their quality of life.
Responsibilities
- Patient Care: Provide personal care and support to patients, including assistance with daily living activities such as eating, bathing, and dressing.
- Therapeutic Engagement: Engage with patients in therapeutic activities to promote recovery and alleviate distress. This includes identifying factors that may increase agitation and employing de-escalation techniques when necessary.
- Monitoring and Reporting: Observe and document patients’ conditions, including any changes in behavior or mood, and report these to the nursing staff.
- Supportive Environment: Create a safe and compassionate environment for patients, ensuring their dignity and privacy are respected at all times.
- Collaboration: Work alongside a multidisciplinary team, including nurses, psychiatrists, and social workers, to implement care plans and support patients effectively.
- Crisis Intervention: Recognize signs of distress or crisis in patients and respond appropriately to ensure their safety and well-being.
Qualifications
- Experience: 1–2 years in a similar role; previous experience in a care role, experience with dementia, brain injury, and nursing home settings is desirable.
- Certifications: Holding a Care Certificate or equivalent is typically desirable.
- Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Attitude: Cheerful, compassionate, respectful, and caring approach.
- Understanding: Good understanding of the needs of vulnerable adults and desire to make a positive contribution.
- Work Arrangements: Ability to work on own initiative, full‑time 33–44 hours per week, with day/night shifts available.
- Legal: Must have the right to work in the UK and live within a commutable distance to the job location.
- Compliance: DBS check required; references to be provided.
