Days start and end at Trafford Town Hall, with most of the time spent out in the Borough undertaking pest control work.

About the Role
You will spend most of your work days out in Trafford, driving a really nice electric van, attending your day’s worklist of appointments, or investigating reports of rats in public spaces. You will need to set your own route based on appointment times and locations, normally working either in the north or the south of the Borough.
The pest control service aims to provide a low cost service for properties situated within Trafford Borough (domestic and non-domestic including schools), ensuring that everyone has access to affordable, high quality pest control service.
Pest Control also assists the Environmental Health and Housing Enforcement teams with their regulatory functions.
The main priorities of the role are to carry out treatment/monitoring/proofing works to control and eradicate pests in domestic and commercial situations in accordance with Trafford’s policies and procedures and current legislation.
About You
We are looking for someone who would like to join a small, closely-knit team, whilst still working for a large, desirable employer.
You will need to be keen to learn and/or keep learning about the best methods and products to use to secure pest free properties via formal and informal training.
You will need to be able to follow precise instructions relating to hazardous products.
Experience and Knowledge
- Experience of organising own work activities, including route planning.
- Basic understanding of pest biology and pest control methods is desirable but not essential. Most of our pest controllers have joined our team without previous experience of the role.
- Experience using basic hand tools.
Skills and Abilities
- Computer literate for completion of records and data inputting.
- Effective communication skills (verbal and written): such as telephone enquiries, preparation of simple reports, interviewing members of the public and liaison with staff from other departments.
- Ability to assess and determine the nature of a problem and provide a solution.
- Ability to work as part of a team and without close supervision, using own initiative.
- Able to organise own workload and adjust priorities within the working day.
- Ability to erect and climb ladders.
- Flexible approach to work to meet the needs of the service.
- Commitment to continuous personal and professional development.
A clean driving licence is required.
Additional Information
- You will be required to drive in this role. You will be asked for a copy of your driving licence as part of the recruitment process and annually afterwards.
- You may be required to work outside core hours as we deliver services from 7:00am until 7:00pm on some days using a rota system (7.25 hrs per day, 36.25 hours/week).
- During very busy (predominantly summer) periods, extended hours may be required, for which time-off-in-lieu will be accrued.
