Peel Forest Preschool is a rural, community-based, not-for-profit early childhood education (ECE) centre in the heart of Peel Forest Village. We have a mixed license for 20 tamariki and we operate with 100% qualified teachers.

We are looking for enthusiastic, qualified ECE or primary teachers to join our close-knit team. We have opportunities available for casual relievers and/or a permanent part-time kaiako, with flexibility to suit the right person.

About the role

As a reliever or part-time teacher, you will work alongside our teaching team to support the day-to-day learning, care, and wellbeing of our tamariki. You will be involved in creating a calm, engaging, and responsive learning environment that supports strong relationships with whānau, and embraces the beauty and opportunities of our rural setting.

For relievers, this role offers genuine flexibility and a great work-life balance. For part-time applicants, we are open to discussing hours that work well for both you and the preschool.

We are proud to offer:

  • low child-teacher ratios in a nurturing, community-driven setting
  • a high-quality curriculum shaped by nature and child-led learning
  • an expansive natural environment with endless opportunities for adventure
  • a supportive, collaborative teaching team
  • full pay parity, with remuneration based on experience and qualifications
  • attractive operating hours
  • a workplace that genuinely values staff wellbeing and sustainable work-life balance.

What we’re looking for

We are seeking a certified teacher who:

  • is genuinely passionate about ECE
  • values strong relationships with tamariki, whānau, and the teaching team
  • is collaborative, flexible, and proactive
  • has a sound understanding of Te Whāriki and how to weave it into daily practice
  • aligns with our philosophy and vision for child-led, nature-focused learning
  • holds, or is willing to obtain, a current first aid certificate.

Applicants must be New Zealand residents or hold a current New Zealand work visa. We are not an accredited employer.
