Senior Machine Tool Maintenance Engineer

Location: RG7 4PR, located between Reading and Basingstoke, with free onsite parking.

Package: £51,500 to £56,000 (dependent on suitability and level of experience) + additional allowance

About the role

Join AWE Production and Assets as a Senior Machine Tool Maintenance Engineer, driving the performance and reliability of our cutting‑edge equipment. Your responsibilities include installation, breakdown support, maintenance, servicing and error mapping of machine tools, and collaborating with Capital Projects teams on machine tool design while applying the Machinery Directive and relevant standards.

Responsibilities

  • Drive performance and reliability of cutting‑edge equipment
  • Perform installation, breakdown support, maintenance, servicing and error mapping for machine tools
  • Collaborate with Capital Projects teams on machine tool design, applying the Machinery Directive and relevant standards
  • Diagnose faults across electrical, mechanical and software‑based systems
  • Maintain safe operations, including building and refining PLC ladder logic programs with safety and compliance in mind
  • Provide mentorship and share knowledge with colleagues
  • Ensure compliance with legislation, SSoW, Health, Safety and Environmental regulations including CDM 2015

Qualifications

  • Minimum HNC in an engineering discipline
  • Significant experience with plant, equipment and processes
  • Hands‑on expertise in calibrating, setting up, disassembling and reassembling machine tools
  • Experience in PLC ladder logic development
  • Knowledge of diagnostics of pneumatics and hydraulic systems
  • Strong fault diagnosis skills across electrical, mechanical and software systems
  • Self‑driven, able to work independently and mentor others
  • Understanding of and ability to apply relevant legislation in a fast‑paced environment
  • Well‑versed in Safe Systems of Work and ability to embed them into daily operations
  • Grasp of current construction Health, Safety and Environmental regulations, notably CDM 2015

Work environment

Due to the classified nature of work, work‑from‑home is limited. The role is predominantly on site at AWE.
