Job Title: Teacher – Primary
Reports to: Principal
Professional Duties
Teachers’ professional duties include:
- Planning, preparing and delivering lessons and setting, marking and recording student work;
- Assessing, recording and reporting on pupil development, progress and attainment;
- Providing a supportive and inclusive learning environment, applying safe safeguarding and child protection practices;
- Communicating and consulting with pupils, parents and the wider community;
- Participating in staff development, performance review and professional development activities;
- Maintaining discipline and health and safety in line with school policy;
- Contributing to curriculum design, assessment methods, and the preparation of public examinations;
- Administrative duties such as student attendance, record keeping and selection activities for other teachers;
- Providing cover for absent teachers as required.
Essential Criteria
- Hold a teaching qualification recognized for teaching in grant-aided schools in Northern Ireland; registration with the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland (GTCNI) prior to appointment.
- Minimum six months’ demonstrable experience teaching Key Stage 2 with positive learning outcomes; experience of supporting children with special educational needs.
- Experience of using digital media and technology to enhance teaching.
- Knowledge of the Northern Ireland Curriculum and the SEND Code of Practice.
- Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection policy and practice.
- Knowledge of current assessment methods and the use of ICT systems.
- Effective teaching and classroom‑management skills that inspire and challenge pupils.
- Ability to provide a supportive, inclusive learning environment and to work collaboratively with pupils, colleagues, parents and the community.
- Proven initiative, problem‑solving and flexibility.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to motivate self and others.
- Evidence of alignment with the School’s values and ethos.
Desirable Criteria
- Minimum one year of paid experience teaching Key Stage 2 with positive outcomes.
- Monitoring of pupil progress, target setting and intervention.
- Assistance with the delivery of Music and Literacy in a school environment.
- Experience of teaching pupils for whom English is not their first language.
Disclosure of Criminal Background
The Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups (Northern Ireland) Order 2007 requires an Enhanced Disclosure of Criminal Background for those engaging in regulated activity. Candidates will be expected to cover the cost of the certificate; details will be provided at the pre‑employment stage.
