Reports To
School Principal through designated line manager
Job Purpose
To provide technical support and assistance to teaching staff in the implementation of the school’s/department’s educational programme.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare, organise and construct resources for teacher demonstrations and practical examinations.
- Set out equipment and materials for class use and remove when class is complete.
- Collect, clean and store equipment and materials in designated storage areas, ensuring items are ready for use.
- Dispose of used materials in a safe and approved manner.
- Ensure mandatory and/or statutory checks of materials and equipment are carried out by qualified personnel.
- Inform designated line manager of any unsatisfactory or unsafe equipment and arrange repair or disposal.
- Prevent unauthorised access to equipment and materials when not in use.
- Advise on health and safety issues related to equipment use.
Administration
- Operate manual and/or computerised systems for administrative tasks related to the area of work.
- Maintain an inventory/records of departmental resources.
- Assist in ordering, purchasing, receiving, checking, storing and distributing resources.
General Duties
- Support all staff in ensuring the general safety of pupils.
- Assist with evacuation in emergencies.
- Undertake photocopying as required.
Additional Technical Staff Duties
- Handle cash in relation to the purchase of practical materials.
- Assist with hospitality at meetings and school functions.
- Carry out minor maintenance repairs throughout the school within competence.

Essential Criteria
- Five GCSEs (Grades A*-C) including English Language, Mathematics, Science, Technology and Design, or equivalent qualifications, or a minimum of one year’s experience in a related environment such as carpentry, joinery, electrics, or engineering.
- Minimum one year’s experience working in a school or formal learning setting.
- Demonstrable knowledge of:
- Requirements of a Technician 1
- Health and safety regulations relevant to the role
- General administrative processes and records
- Safeguarding and child protection procedures
- Proven effective planning and organisational skills and the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team to achieve outcomes.
- Evidence of sound interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Willingness to undertake necessary training on workshop tooling and machinery.
Additional Essential Criteria (Interview)
- Evidence of how experience and approach to work reflect the school’s values and ethos.
Desirable Criteria
- Minimum one year’s experience of working in a technology workshop in a school or college.
- Willingness to undertake the City & Guilds 6131 qualification in health & safety and workshop competency.
