Fixed Term positions available. We are recruiting highly motivated Healthcare Support Workers to join our multidisciplinary team in Milton Keynes. The role involves supporting patients with acute mental health problems in a practical and recovery‑focused setting.

Main Duties
- Participate directly in the delivery of care to a group of patients as delegated by the nurse in charge.
- Assist patients with daily living skills, e.g. personal hygiene, dietary needs, fluid intake, etc.
- Participate in the observation of patients as indicated in the observation and seclusion policy.
- Report verbally to the nurse in charge about changes in behaviour, mental state, physical state, and overall wellbeing of patients within the ward environment. Use own initiative to provide a safe environment.
- Record electronically or in writing the progress and presentation of allocated patients during the duty. Ensure validation by a qualified nurse.
- Participate as required in group therapies or activities under the supervision of a qualified nurse or occupational therapist. Organise low‑key activities to meet identified patient needs.
- Carry out escort duties to other departments and areas as indicated by the nurse in charge. Drive unit vehicle where licence held.
- Carry out other appropriate duties within personal capabilities, such as recording temperature, pulse and respirations.
- Demonstrate ability to organise and prioritise duties based on individuals presentation.
- Be aware of local Mental Health Service Provisions.
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Spoken and written English to an appropriate standard to fulfil the job requirements.
- Numeracy and literacy skills to keep accurate records and administer medicines (if appropriate).
Desirable criteria
- Relevant Level 3 qualification – e.g. advanced apprenticeship, A‑levels, T‑levels, NVQ.
- Care Certificate – supported to complete within 3 months of starting if not achieved elsewhere.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Previous experience of working with a multidisciplinary team.
- Experience of working with the general public and communicating with a range of different people.
- Previous experience of working in a fast‑paced environment.
- Previous experience of working within a customer‑focused environment.
Desirable criteria
- Healthcare/NHS or similar experience in community or hospital settings.
- Volunteer sector experience.
- Experience in a caring role.
- Previous experience in mental health setting or working with adults suffering from mental health problems.
Skills and Abilities
Essential criteria
- Good Communication Skills.
- Ability to provide accurate information.
- Ability to relate to individuals and groups.
- Good awareness of patient safety issues and reduction of risks.
Desirable criteria
- Basic knowledge and understanding of the Mental Health Act 1983.
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Understand the need for confidentiality.
- Understand importance and willingness to assist individuals with self‑care and care of the environment.
- Knowledge of mental health issues.
