We are seeking a number of Healthcare Assistants to join our Care @ Home service based in Cornwall. This is a night service and will require you to work from 22:00pm until 07:00am.

Main duties of the job

As a Healthcare Assistant (HCA) working in our night‑time community team providing end‑of‑life care in patients’ homes, you will play a vital role in ensuring comfort, dignity, and support during their final days.

Role: End of Life Care Healthcare Assistant (Band 2)

Hours: 22:00pm – 07:00am night shift

Contract: Part‑Time Permanent (18, 27 or 36‑hour contracts available)

Salary: Band 2 £25,272 per annum, in line with NHS Agenda for Change (AFC) + enhancements and Marie Curie employee benefits package

Locations: Central, North and East Cornwall (you will work within a 25‑mile radius from your home address)

You will be responsible for planning your own work, responding to changes in patient conditions, prioritising care needs (including hygiene, nutrition and hydration, comfort, monitoring vitals and more) as detailed in the personalised care plan, and ensuring you escalate appropriately to senior staff within the multidisciplinary team in a timely manner.

What we’re looking for:

  • National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 2 in Health and Social Care or an equivalent
  • Hold a current and valid driving licence and have access to a vehicle which includes business insurance
  • Knowledge of palliative and end‑of‑life care
  • Hold person‑centred conversations; communicate sensitively with the person and those important to them in a non‑judgemental, empathetic, supportive and professional manner
  • Participate in the assessment, care planning, review and evaluation of holistic care management plans within the multidisciplinary team
  • Undertake risk assessments to support safe delivery of care

Person Specification

Qualifications:

  • National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 2 in Health and Social Care or equivalent

Experience:

  • Knowledge of palliative and end‑of‑life care
