Music Teacher – Full‑time, temporary to permanent from September 2026

This Music Teacher role offers the opportunity to work full time within a supportive secondary school setting on a temporary to permanent basis from September 2026. The Music Teacher will deliver high‑quality music education that develops pupils’ creativity, technical skills, and appreciation of music across the curriculum. This role is ideal for a committed Music Teacher seeking long‑term stability and the opportunity to secure a permanent position.

Duties as Music Teacher

  • Plan and deliver engaging Music lessons across the secondary age range
  • Teach Music in line with the national curriculum and examination specifications where applicable
  • Create a positive, inclusive, and well‑managed classroom environment
  • Develop pupils’ practical, theoretical, and performance skills
  • Use assessment effectively to monitor progress and inform teaching
  • Provide clear and constructive feedback to support pupil attainment
  • Differentiate lessons to meet the needs of pupils with a range of abilities
  • Work collaboratively with the Music department and wider staff team
  • Contribute to curriculum development and departmental planningSupport extracurricular music activities such as ensembles, performances, or clubs where appropriate
  • Maintain high expectations for behaviour, effort, and achievement
  • Uphold safeguarding, welfare, and health and safety responsibilities at all times

Ideal Music Teacher

  • Holds Qualified Teacher Status or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification
  • Experience teaching Music at secondary level
  • Strong subject knowledge and enthusiasm for Music education
  • Confident classroom and behaviour management skills
  • Ability to motivate and engage pupils of varying abilities
  • Organised, reflective, and committed to continuous improvement
  • Willingness to commit to a temporary role with the opportunity to become permanent
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people

All candidates registering with Step Teachers are subject to safeguarding checks in line with the DfE’s statutory guidance Keeping Children Safe in Education, including reference checks and an Enhanced DBS check either registered on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.

Salary will be paid weekly through PAYE and is dependent on experience.
