Transport Driver – Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy
Opportunities for Transport Drivers to join our busy Transport Department. Positions available on a full-time (36 hours), part-time (4 hours) and bank basis.
Posts and Hours Available
- POST 1: 1 x 36 hours, Monday to Friday, hours of work between 7am & 5pm
- POST 2: 1 x 4 hours, Saturday only 11.30am to 3.30pm
- POST 3: Bank, 0 hours as and when required

Working Hours and Schedule
The hours of work will be in line with the needs of the service and meet service demands. Working days are predominantly Monday–Friday, with limited weekend service.
Role Overview
You will be fully trained in all Transport driving duties such as laboratories/specimen collections, pharmacy, stores goods, patient transport and clinical waste collections. Drivers can be lone workers, driving throughout Fife and surrounding areas (Edinburgh & Dundee) on a daily basis. Routes can also be repetitive. Vehicles range from cars, vans, minibuses and 3.5 tonne lorries.
You will be based within the service yard at the Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy, but may be required to work within other hospital sites if required. Physical and manual handling is involved, transporting various items including cages, stores, medical notes, equipment, furniture, clinical waste bins and labs & pharmacy boxes.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate transport vehicles safely and efficiently.
- Deliver specimens, pharmacy orders, store goods, patients, and clinical waste.
- Follow route mapping and timed duty schedules.
- Handle manual and physical tasks associated with transport duties.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Full clean UK driving licence.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to follow route mapping and timed duty schedules.
- Ability to perform manual handling tasks.
Full department training, one‑to‑one coaching and ADR training for clinical waste collections will be provided. Attendance will also be required at the NHS Fife induction training course, and annual mandatory training and PDP reviews are conducted online.
