We are delighted to be partnering with a high-growth marine energy business as they appoint a Commercial Director at a pivotal stage in their journey.

This is a unique opportunity for a strategic and driven leader with strong commercial growth and legal expertise to shape and scale a key function within an ambitious and evolving organisation. The role goes beyond traditional commercial leadership, you will play a central role in building a new commercial delivery capability, leveraging legal insight as a driver of growth and competitive advantage.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Leading completion of major contract negotiations and overseeing and supporting all contract formation across the business, and ensuring appropriate resources are in place to manage those contracts
  • Developing, planning and implementing strategies that align with business goals to promote growth.
  • Strong risk management and compliance governance, identifying and managing legal and operational facets of these within the business
  • Managing relationships with key stakeholders to understand the needs of current customers and devise and implement customer acquisition strategies.
  • Collaborating with departments across the company (marketing, sales, finance).
  • Assisting in setting financial targets, budget development and monitoring.
  • Driving the performance of commercial activities using key metrics and reporting

Must be able to demonstrate:

  • A blend of commercial awareness, analytical and creative thinking, partnered with a strategic mindset.
  • A deep understanding of business operations, commercial contracts, finances, marketing tactics and market conditions.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to enable them to work collaboratively with key shareholders, both within the business and externally.
  • Experience in developing and implementing successful business growth strategies that align with the corporate aims of the business.
  • Understanding of the sector, its nuances and risks.
  • Solid knowledge of performance reporting and financial/budgeting processes.
  • Strong attention to detail, time management, organisational and leadership ability to guide the business to achieve business goals.
  • A business qualification – BSc/BA/ MSc/MA in business administration, legal, finance or a relevant field.

Typical role activity:

  • Contract formation including legal and financial reviews and compliance checks, and then longer term management of strategic relationships
  • Evaluating the performance of commercial activities through data analysis.
  • Lead and mentor commercial teams, build capability, fostering a culture of high performance and accountability
  • Understanding market conditions and industry trends, as well as business operations to inform business marketing and sales strategy.
  • Financial management – setting financial targets and ensuring business operations remain within budgets.
  • Working with the marketing director to plan and execute marketing campaigns to generate new revenue streams and promote business growth.
  • Working collaboratively across the business with management teams to achieve business goals.
  • Building and maintaining partnerships with key stakeholders
