Overview

We are working with a large ‘Outstanding’ special school in Westerham TN16 postcode, which is looking to recruit experienced Student Support Assistants. The roles will be due to start in June 2026 and are long‑term positions. They will begin with a probationary period and, if passed, long‑term contracts will be available with weekly shift work.

Working Hours

Your working days will be Monday‑Friday, and shift hours will vary. You will be required to work a minimum of 28 hours a week, with overtime available for those who wish to work additional hours.

Responsibilities

Assist students by providing personal care and support across the Primary and Secondary departments. You will work across the school, including residential care during outside‑school shift hours, and deliver care to children and young people who have physical disabilities and complex care needs.

Requirements

  • Full driving licence (due to location; nearest village is Oxted and reachable by bus).
  • Manual handling training with current certification – must have recent training on moving and handling of people in residential care (within 1 year).
  • DBS check covering children and adults – you must either have a current DBS that covers both or be willing to pay £63.70 to run one yourself, or submit an existing DBS that meets the requirements.
  • Previous experience working with children with Special Educational Needs and confident delivering personal care.
  • Advantageous if you have a care background and experience in moving and handling people in care.
  • Sound understanding of safeguarding and child protection; all applicants will be subject to safe recruitment checks, references and an enhanced DBS check in line with DfE guidelines.

Benefits

You will be rewarded with competitive rates of pay in the region of £14.50 to £15 per hour, and there are a range of shift patterns available including mornings and evenings within residential settings.
