SEND Teaching Assistant

Supportive Primary School in East London seeking a SEND Teaching Assistant.

Location: Tower Hamlets, East London.

Pay: £95-£110 per day. Start date: ASAP or September 2026. Contract: Full-time, long-term (potential for permanent).

About the Role

Vocational Recruitment is working in partnership with a two-form entry primary school in East London to appoint a committed and enthusiastic SEND Teaching Assistant for a full-time role trialling now and starting in September 2026. This is a long-term position as a SEND Teaching Assistant with the possibility of a permanent contract for the right candidate down the line. The role involves working closely with teachers to provide tailored support, encourage engagement and independence, and help students reach their full potential both academically and socially. Previous experience supporting children with SEND is desirable, along with strong communication skills, patience, and a positive attitude.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support pupils with SEND on a one-to-one basis and in small groups
  • Assist the class teacher in delivering tailored learning activities
  • Encourage student engagement, confidence, and independence
  • Help manage classroom behaviour in a positive and supportive mannerAdapt learning materials to meet individual student needs
  • Monitor and record student progress where required
  • Support students with social, emotional, and communication needs
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and external professionals
  • Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all pupils at all times

Requirements

  • Prior experience working with children with SEND (desirable)
  • Knowledge and understanding of SEND
  • Strong classroom management and organisational skills
  • A proactive and positive approach to supporting children with their learning
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil welfare
