Job Title: Community Liaison Officer

Location: Edinburgh Park

Salary from £44,000 to £55,000 + Excellent Benefits Programme

To develop and maintain relationships in the community in a planned and structured manner. Promote and showcase our activities as part of supporting the significant SPT CAPEX programme (Circa 300+ projects as part of £10bn+ Investment Plan). Work with project teams to develop, consent, and deliver significant infrastructure activities which impact upon local communities throughout Central belt and Southern Scotland. Support wider communication and stakeholder activities and initiatives.

What you’ll be doing

  • Develop communication and community relations activities to support and promote project development and delivery programmes.
  • Establish, build, develop and review relationships with key stakeholders in the community as identified above.
  • Undertake presentations and discussions with community bodies.
  • Organise and support events and proactive communication activities to ensure we are showcasing our activities and communicating our plans to relevant stakeholders (e.g. PR Video, community drop‑in sessions, agricultural shows, gala days etc).
  • Ensure relevant information is developed and shared via correct medium to our community stakeholders.
  • Prepare and draft responses for major project enquiries and complaints from community stakeholders.
  • Work with project teams and external parties to assess and minimise disruption through proactive communications and awareness‑raising to ensure minimal customer complaints.
  • Maintain and develop relationships with EnergyNetworks staff across the business, especially SPD.
  • Ensure the SPT Community Tracker (enquiries and complaints) is updated and provide relevant data for the SPT KPI scorecard.
  • Prepare articles associated with major projects for internal and external channels and publications, including media, social media, and video content.
  • Update project websites and internal and external web platforms.
  • Respond to situations requiring community input, such as storms or emergencies, communicating with parties as directed.
  • Contribute to project reviews to ensure lessons learned are identified and implemented.
  • Oversee the proactive establishment and continuation of positive long‑term relationships with local communities around key areas of the transmission network.

What you’ll bring

  • Experience in community relations related roles.
  • Strong communications and engagement experience in communities.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining internal and external stakeholder networks.
  • Proven experience of working in a project related environment.
  • Ability to communicate and present information effectively at all levels, both verbally and in writing, to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Problem‑solving skills with the ability to provide logical solutions to issues.
  • Ability to negotiate with multiple parties and develop satisfactory outcomes.
  • Ability to diffuse potential conflict situations with members of the public.
  • Appreciation of the key business drivers and the aims of SPT and how community activities complement and contribute to these aims.
  • Understanding of key business drivers and the external context in which SP is operating.
  • Produce management reports and statistics as directed.
  • Capability to manage and influence challenging discussions and situations at all levels.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities using sound judgement to determine options and solutions.
  • Health and safety knowledge and awareness.
  • Basic knowledge of Net Zero goals, network requirements/implications, and the resulting impact on communities.
  • Full UK driver’s licence.
