Job Description:

As a Production Operative within the Bench Department, you will be responsible for maintaining high standards of proficiency and quality operating a range of machinery and equipment to manufacture components with compliance to engineering drawings and specifications.

The role involves reshaping and forming precision metal seals to exacting standards, using hand tools, fly presses, and three-ring coiling machines.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with all company documentation, work instructions, and policies relevant to your department.
  • Manufacture parts that conform to engineering drawing requirements. This will include carrying out in-process inspection (OVP) using defined measuring tools such as CMMs and optical measurement equipment, recording data as required.
  • Complete all relevant documentation, including work orders and quality records, and accurately book operations on the ERP system.
  • Ensure appropriate PPE is worn, adhering to all Health & Safety procedures and guidelines.
  • Maintain 5S standards within the work area.
  • Specialist processes within the bench dept, such as stud welding, (training will be provided)
  • Collaborate with team members and Supervisors to monitor workflow and identify issues in a timely manner.
  • Provide clear and detailed handovers when transferring work to colleagues or other teams.
  • Support other production areas as required.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • A recognised engineering apprenticeship or previous experience in a precision engineering environment is desirable but not essential
  • Strong hands‑on engineering skills, including excellent manual dexterity and the ability to perform precise, detail‑oriented tasks using tools and technical equipment.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
  • Good understanding of precision engineering machinery, tools, and their safe operation.
  • Methodical, well‑organised, and detail‑oriented approach to work.
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • A proactive approach to continuous improvement, ensuring quality standards are consistently met.
