Business Unit
You will be based within a busy, fast‑paced project environment in South Wales, contributing to civil engineering works across the rail, energy and environmental sectors.
The Wales region delivers a broad portfolio of infrastructure projects for key clients, working across frameworks and standalone schemes that support regional development and community resilience.
Typical projects may include:
- Civil engineering infrastructure and earthworks
- Rail and transport‑related civil assets
- Drainage, environmental and flood mitigation schemes
- Structures, highways and public realm works
- Asset maintenance and capital delivery projects
This varied workload provides excellent exposure to different stages of the civil engineering project lifecycle.
The Role
As an Apprentice Civil Engineer, you will become an integral part of our site and engineering teams, working alongside experienced engineers and construction professionals while studying towards your degree.
You will develop a strong technical foundation through a combination of practical, on‑site experience and formal academic learning, gaining the skills and confidence required to progress as a professional Civil Engineer.
Your day‑to‑day activities may include:
- Assisting engineers with site engineering duties and setting‑out activities
- Supporting quality inspections and ensuring works meet required standards
- Preparing daily site records and reports for project teams
- Monitoring health, safety and environmental compliance on site
- Assisting with temporary works, method statements and risk assessments
- Liaising with site teams, subcontractors and supervision staff
- Supporting the delivery of projects that positively impact local communities
By the end of your apprenticeship, you will have achieved a recognised degree qualification alongside substantial real‑world industry experience.
Training & Qualification
You will study towards the Civil Engineer (Degree) Apprenticeship, typically delivered through part‑time / day‑release university attendance alongside your role.

Requirements
- Be passionate about building a career in Civil Engineering
- Be motivated, proactive and eager to learn
- Have strong communication, organisational and IT skills
- Be willing to commit to a Degree Level Apprenticeship alongside full‑time employment
- Due to the safety‑critical nature of this role and the operational requirements associated with working on rail infrastructure, applicants must be aged 18 or over by the time the role commences in September 2026 (or be approaching their 18th birthday at that time).
No previous industry experience is required – we are looking for enthusiasm, potential and the right attitude.
