Governance Professional (Clerk to Trustees)

Thomas Keble School seeks a Governance Professional to act as Clerk to the Trustees and advise the Board on all aspects of governance, due to the retirement of the current postholder. The role is term time only, starting September 2026.

Salary: £30,024 to £32,597 FTE (actual salary: £2,702 – £2,934). The position includes membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) with employer pension contributions at current rates.

Responsibilities

  • Provide an efficient and professional clerking service to the Trust Board, including procedural advice in carrying out statutory obligations and administrative support in fulfilling strategic functions.
  • Prepare all Board and Committee meetings and provide accurate minutes.
  • Maintain a good understanding of school governance.
  • Adapt working hours to attend Board and Committee meetings and other Board activities; total of 14 meetings per year, with evening meetings normally from 6.00 pm to 8.00 pm.
  • Communicate effectively with Trustees, ensuring they are informed and equipped to perform their duties.
  • Manage meeting documentation and keep records up to date.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Organised, with excellent interpersonal and literacy skills.
  • Flexible approach to working hours, able to adapt weekly schedules.
  • Experience or knowledge of governance processes is desirable.
