Reception Teaching Assistant – Early Years (EYFS)

Location: Islington, LondonPay: £101–£110 per dayContract: Full‑time, temporary, long‑termStart date: 14 May 2026

About the Role

You will support the delivery of engaging phonics sessions and help develop children’s early literacy, communication, and social skills within the Reception class. You will work closely with the class teacher to provide both structured and play‑based learning opportunities, ensuring every child thrives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support high‑quality phonics teaching and early reading development.
  • Assist in delivering engaging EYFS activities (adult‑led and child‑initiated).
  • Provide targeted support to individuals and small groups.
  • Promote language development, communication, and social interaction.
  • Support children with additional needs, including SEND, EAL, or speech and language needs.
  • Help create a safe, stimulating, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and families.

Requirements

  • Experience working as a Teaching Assistant within Early Years or Key Stage 1.
  • Strong understanding of phonics teaching and early literacy development.
  • Knowledge of the EYFS framework and child development.
  • Minimum Level2 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent) or relevant experience.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Patient, caring, and adaptable approach.
  • Commitment to inclusion and high expectations for all pupils.

Desirable

  • Level2 (or higher) Early Years or Teaching Assistant qualification.
  • Experience working in an inner‑city or diverse school setting.
  • Experience supporting children with SEND, EAL, or speech and language needs.
