About the Role
We are seeking enthusiastic, passionate individuals who love health and fitness and can provide high levels of customer service as a Recreation Assistant – Pool (lifeguard). The role involves delivering efficient lifeguard services, assisting with sport and leisure activities, ensuring customer satisfaction, health & safety, and overall quality service.

Responsibilities
- Administer First Aid as necessary and report accidents, injuries and incidents as per procedures.
- Carry out duties in accordance with current codes of practice, Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, COSHH, SOPs and Emergency Action Plans.
- Perform general cleaning duties to agreed quality standards, using manual and mechanical equipment while complying with safe working practices.
- Erect, dismantle and store equipment in line with the operational programme safely and methodically.
- Contribute to the performance of the facility, ensuring a customer‑focused service.
- Supervise children’s activities and parties, ensuring compliance with child protection policies and procedures.
- Promote and support Equal Opportunities and Health & Safety.
- Undertake other duties directed by the supervisor that are commensurate with your grade and responsibility.
Progression Criteria To A2
- Supervise swimming pool activities, identify potential hazards and take appropriate action in line with SOPs, Emergency Action Plans and National Pool Lifeguard guidelines.
- Maintain National Pool Lifeguard qualification by attending required training sessions in accordance with national and council guidelines.
- Perform any additional duties within the spirit of the post and commensurate with the job evaluation outcome.

Desirable Requirements
- Awareness of Health and Safety requirements.
- First Aid Qualification.
- ASA/UKCC Level 2 Aquatics or ASA/UKCC Level 1 Aquatics qualification.
- Gym Instructor NVQ Level 2 or equivalent.
- Experience working in a public leisure centre or the private sector industry.
- Experience in the use of specialist lifeguard equipment.
