1. Position Details
- Position Title: Piping Hydrotest Supervisor
- Location: Bristol – Hinkley Point C
- Department: Construction / Mechanical Commissioning
- Reports to: Piping Superintendent
2. Role Purpose & Scope
The Position Holder is responsible for planning, supervising, and reporting on all leak testing, pneumatic, and hydraulic pressure testing activities. This includes the preparation of hydrotest work packages, the subsequent reinstatement of installed piping lines, and managing dedicated field-testing teams.
3. Main Responsibilities
- HSE & Site Safety: Attend subcontractor toolbox talks, enforce safe working practices, and maintain rigorous housekeeping to eliminate slipping/tripping hazards.
- Hydrotest Work Packages: Lead the preparation, review, and finalization of comprehensive hydrotest work packages, test diagrams, and isometric sketches in strict compliance with nuclear or oil & gas industry standards.
- Testing Operations: Supervise pipeline cleaning, gauging, flooding, dewatering, swabbing, drying, and final reinstatement for various piping materials, including carbon steel, stainless steel, GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic), and HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene).
- Technical Packages: Check test circuits against project requirements; compile and finalize all quality and testing documentation packages.
- Resource Planning: Plan and optimize manpower, specialized equipment, and material requirements for all testing phases.
- Logistics & Quality: Coordinate test-water sourcing, transport, and disposal; review calibration records for all instruments and control technical documentation.
- Rectification: Oversee line repairs if leaks occur and manage subsequent re-testing procedures, applying specific procedures for thermoplastic and composite materials (GRP/HDPE).
- Stakeholder Coordination: Interface with piping zone leaders, QA/QC, and HSE teams (both internal and client-facing).
- Reporting: Maintain detailed data sheets of test results and track status (passes, failures, modifications) via tracking sheets.
- Specialized Compliance: Adhere to a “zero harm” approach, acknowledging that project-specific security and regulated safety standards are of paramount importance. Comply with all strict site-licensing rules.
4. Candidate Requirements
Experience & Technical Skills
- Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in an identical supervisor role within major infrastructure or heavy industrial projects, specifically within the Oil & Gas or Nuclear sectors.
- Material Expertise: Proven track record in supervising pressure testing, jointing, and handling of GRP and HDPE piping systems alongside traditional metallic piping.
- Documentation: Strong expertise in the independent preparation of hydrotest work packages, test loops, and QA/QC documentation turn-over.
- Software: Working knowledge of AutoCAD.
- Languages: Fluency in English (written and spoken).
Education & Qualifications
- Academic: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical/Construction Engineering, or equivalent International Vocational Technical Diploma / Apprenticeship standard.
- Leadership: Hold (or commit to achieving within 3 months) a recognized Level 3 Team Leading or Management Certificate (e.g., ILM/CMI).
Certifications & Clearances
- Industry Standards: Possession of a recognized Supervisor Safety Passport or Health, Safety & Environment test certificate for supervisors.
- Site Qualifications: Completion of specialized safety/supervisory units for regulated industrial construction sites (e.g., SMSTS, IOSH, or equivalent).
- Vetting: Ability to successfully obtain standard national Security Vetting and Background Checks.
