Reports to the Store Manager.
Below is an overview of the role of the Sales Assistant role within Balfe’s.
Sales Assistants help customers identify and purchase products they require / desire. Sales Assistant duties include selling, restocking and merchandising. The goal is to provide high class customer service and to increase company’s customer base, growth and revenue through sales maximisation.
Responsibilities & Duties
- Deliver outstanding customer service to create a welcoming and knowledgeable shopping experience.
- Greet customers warmly and engage with cycling enthusiasts of all levels.
- Assist customers with puncture repairs and provide expert advice where needed.
- Respond professionally to inquiries about products, services, and repairs.
- Provide accurate quotations for repairs and products, ensuring transparency.
- Book repair work for the workshop, clearly communicating timelines and expectations.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and visually appealing store.
- Keep the shop fully stocked and easy to navigate.
- Answer the phone and manage customer queries, including order updates.
- Recommend complementary products to encourage additional sales.
- Inform customers about promotions, special offers, and events.
- Process sales efficiently and accurately using the point‑of‑sale system.
- Receive and organise deliveries, ensuring stock levels are maintained.
- Stay up to date on product knowledge through training and online resources.
- Perform end‑of‑day cleaning and organisation tasks.
- Follow all company policies and procedures, including health and safety standards.
- Participate in training programs to enhance skills and knowledge.
Experience & Qualifications
- Previous experience in retail or customer service is preferred, particularly in a cycling‑related environment.
- Basic mechanical knowledge or experience in bike servicing is an advantage.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with customers.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and handle multiple tasks effectively.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Basic computer skills, including experience with point‑of‑sale systems.
- A passion for cycling and a desire to learn more about products and services.
