Night Shift Support Worker
This is a part-time, on-site Night Shift Support Worker role based in Walsall. The Night Shift Support Worker provides compassionate, consistent support to residents during night hours, ensuring their safety, comfort, and adherence to individualized care plans. Responsibilities include conducting regular welfare and safety checks, monitoring residents’ wellbeing, and responding calmly and effectively to any incidents, concerns, or emergencies. The role involves supporting medication routines as directed by clinical staff, maintaining accurate records and handover notes, and following all safeguarding, confidentiality, and health and safety procedures. The Night Shift Support Worker also helps maintain a calm, respectful environment, offers practical and emotional support to residents when needed, and collaborates with day staff and the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure continuity of care.
Qualifications
- Experience in a support, care, or rehabilitation setting, ideally within addiction, mental health, or social care services.
- Strong interpersonal, listening, and de-escalation skills, with the ability to build respectful and professional relationships with diverse residents.
- Ability to follow care plans, risk management procedures, and clinical guidance, including accurate record-keeping and handovers.
- Demonstrated reliability and resilience to work waking night shifts, maintaining vigilance, professionalism, and good judgment under pressure.
- Understanding of safeguarding, confidentiality, and professional boundaries in a residential setting.
- Basic IT and documentation skills for updating electronic or paper records and communicating with colleagues.
- Relevant qualification in health and social care (or willingness to work towards one); training in first aid, basic life support, or mental health awareness is an advantage.
- Commitment to non-judgmental, person-centered practice and to supporting residents’ dignity, autonomy, and recovery goals.
