Care Assistant – Residential Homes – Clitheroe

Pay Rates: £12.71 – £16.87 per hour (Umbrella rate).

Information on the role

Successful candidates will be offered different shift patterns starting as ad hoc with potential to be added to the rota. Candidates must be over 18 years old. Shifts include 08:00 – 15:30, 15:30 – 21:00/22:00, and some 22:00 – 08:00.

What you will be doing

  • Participate in physical care tasks such as washing, dressing, bathing and feeding clients, including those with special needs arising from physical or mental deterioration.
  • Engage in social duties including talking and motivating clients, helping them maintain contact with family and community, assisting with shopping and organising group social activities.
  • Assist in creating a supportive and homely atmosphere where clients can achieve maximum independence.
  • Co‑operate with domestic staff to best meet the personal needs of the client.
  • Contribute to the establishment records, including support plans.
  • Escort clients outside the establishment as required, for example to the hospital or opticians.
  • Attend relevant training courses as agreed with management staff.
  • Assist with laundry duties and care of client’s items, including emptying and cleaning commodes, making and changing beds, and cleaning and tidying lockers.
  • Provide care during the final stages of life and attend to the needs of the deceased and their relatives.
  • Assist management with the administration of medicine.

Skills & Professional Characteristics needed

  • Have experience or be able to demonstrate competence in carrying out the job.
  • Be able to work without close supervision.
  • Be able to complete tasks to required standards and deadlines.

Essential Requirements

  • NVQ Level 2 in Direct Care or commitment to study to achieve the qualification.
  • Previous experience working with adults and older people.
  • Previous experience working in a residential setting.
  • Willingness to work weekends and bank holidays.
  • Willingness to undertake relevant training.
