Engineering Manager (Design)

The Role
- Seeking an experienced Engineering Manager (Design) to lead design coordination on major projects
- Act as the technical lead, managing multiple design consultants and ensuring programme alignment
- Oversee design inputs/outputs, ensuring compliance with contract requirements and quality standards
- They will support the Project Manager with design reporting, governance, and stakeholder coordination
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and coordinate design consultants and deliverables across the project lifecycle
- Lead resolution of design queries (RFIs) and technical issues
- Review designs for compliance, constructability, and contract alignment
- Produce and maintain design programmes, reports, and deliverable schedules
- Chair design reviews, interface meetings, and stakeholder workshops
- Manage design change control and approval processes
- Collaborate with client representatives and external stakeholders
- Oversee document control, drawings issuance, and design communications
- Support procurement and engagement of suppliers and subcontractors
- Lead engagement with approval bodies (e.g. TAA, NR, LUL)
Key Requirements
- Strong experience as an Engineering Manager / Design Manager within construction or infrastructure
- Proven background managing multi-disciplinary design teams and consultants
- Experience delivering large, complex projects (energy, rail, or infrastructure preferred)
- Prior experience in a design consultancy or temporary works design environment
- Strong knowledge of design assurance, approvals, and change management processes
- Ability to chair technical meetings and engage senior stakeholders
- Understanding of Principal Designer duties and CDM regulations
- Demonstrated ability to drive programme, quality, and performance
