Locum Consultant in Paediatric Rheumatology

Fixed Term | 12 Months | Part Time | 6.4 PA

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Rheumatology team at Sheffield Children’s Hospital.

Applications are invited from candidates with suitable training for the post of consultant in paediatric rheumatology. This post has become available to support the current paediatric Rheumatology service. The clinical duties will focus on providing tertiary rheumatology services for inpatients, outpatients, and advice to South Yorkshire and nearby centres.

There is no call commitment with this post. The successful applicant will join the multi-disciplinary team as key members in developing the service going forward, in order to offer the best possible care to children and their families.

Main duties of the job

Some of your duties and responsibilities will include

  • Lead and develop the provision of children’s rheumatological services for Sheffield and surrounding districts
  • Work in partnership with other Paediatric Rheumatology Consultants to deliver a high-quality, coordinated service
  • Provide clinical leadership and specialist expertise in paediatric rheumatology across the service
  • Work collaboratively with Trust management to ensure the optimal use of medical wards, theatre lists, clinics and other resources
  • Contribute to the delivery of a safe, effective and high-quality acute medicine service for children
  • Support the service in meeting Trust objectives and national performance targets
  • Contribute to service development, quality improvement and strategic planning within paediatric services
  • Promote effective multidisciplinary working to improve outcomes for children and families.

Qualifications

  • MBBS or equivalent
  • MRCPCH or evidence of equivalent
  • Certificate of completion of training (CCT) or equivalence
  • Evidence of higher degree MD, MSc, or PhD in Rheumatology

Skills

  • Able to work under own initiative and motivate/lead others
  • Able to communicate well with children, parents, and staff
  • Ability to teach

Knowledge

  • A minimum of 24 months experience in paediatric rheumatology
  • Experience of tertiary paediatric rheumatology
  • Demonstrate interest in connective tissue disease
  • Research experience
