Secretarial Admin Assistant – Ophthalmology
Do you want to support patients and clinicians at your local NHS Trust? Are you positive, reliable, IT literate, and motivated to make a difference? We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our Ophthalmology Department supporting the clinical secretarial team. This is a great opportunity to contribute to the smooth running of our services and play a vital role in supporting patient care.
In this role, you’ll be proof‑reading clinical letters, ensuring accuracy and clarity in patient communications. You’ll also carry out basic administrative tasks as needed, helping to keep things organised and efficient. You will be part of a team that works behind the scenes to support clinicians and improve patient experience.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will undertake proof‑reading and letter processing, scanning, and general admin duties. It is essential that you are able to demonstrate good interpersonal, verbal and written skills and have a “can do” attitude. You will have a good level of IT literacy as you will be using multiple software packages.
Qualifications
- GCSE level A‑C, including English and Maths
- NVQ2 administration / data processing or equivalent knowledge and skills
- Typing / text processing / data entry skills to RSAII or equivalent
- ECDL or alternative recognised IT qualification
Experience
- Previous admin or secretarial experience in a busy environment
- Record keeping, filing systems and prioritisation of workload
- Use of patient record systems and familiarity with medical terminology
- Good written and verbal communication skills; able to work on own initiative within guidelines
