An exciting opportunity has arisen to expand the peer support workforce in our ReConnect Service.
Our Greater Manchester ReConnect Service is commissioned by NHS England and is a care after custody service that seeks to improve the care of people leaving prison. ReConnect offers screening and support pre‑release, and peer‑led navigation and support in the community, post release.
The Greater Manchester ReConnect Service is currently provided in HMP Forest Bank and HMP Hindley, HMP Buckley Hall and HMP Manchester. Our community provision offers support to people leaving prison who are residing in or repatriating to the Greater Manchester region.
The vacancy positions will cover all community boroughs of Greater Manchester.
Main duties of the job
The role of the Peer Support Navigator is to draw on personal experience and direct contact with the criminal justice system and valuable lived experience of wider health vulnerabilities. The post holders will empower people to connect, access and navigate health services, voluntary sector services and community‑based activities and support. This role is to support and influence the journeys of individuals leaving prison to enhance their health, wellbeing, and improve quality of life and outcomes.
Job responsibilities and benefits
- Pay Enhancements: 30% additional for evenings (8pm onwards) and Saturdays, and 60% additional for Sundays and Bank holidays.
- 27 days annual leave plus bank holidays, rising to 29 after 5 years and 33 days after 10 years.

Education / Qualifications
- Good level of secondary education.
- Willingness to work toward attainment of NVQ3 or equivalent in a relevant subject.
- Willingness to undertake further training in line with the development of the RPSW role.
Experience
- Evidence of pro‑social behaviour (e.g., empathy, actions that benefit others).
- Experience of mental vulnerability and contact with the criminal justice system.
- Experience of working in a team.
- Experience of training, teaching, coaching/mentoring others.
- Experience of using a range of self‑management or recovery tools and techniques.
