Learning Support Coordinator
Site: Post holder will work across all centres (North London/Hertfordshire).Reports to: Deputy Chief Executive.Hours of work: 35 hours per week.Salary band: £34,000 to £39,000.
Overall Purpose
- Ensure a consistent, high‑quality provision of learning, social, and personal development support across the organisation for learners with special education needs and disabilities (SENDD).
- Support and collaborate with teaching staff in adapting course curriculums and developing teaching and assessment strategies to meet the needs of SEND learners.
- Coordinate the work of a team of Learning Support Assistants, providing leadership and mentoring.
- Summarise identified learning, social, and personal development needs and ensure an individual learning plan is in place.
- Teach a number of timetabled classes each week and provide learning support in the classroom setting.
- Support SEND learners in developing personal and social skills and facilitate integration within the wider learner group.
- Carry out all administrative tasks related to the role.
- Contribute to learner progress reviews.
- Assist SEND learners to achieve their learning and development goals while on programme at First Rung.
Key Responsibilities
- Summarise the identified needs of SEND learners and the teaching, learning, assessment and other support strategies set out in Individual Educational Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) to meet those needs.
- Ensure that teaching staff are fully aware of the teaching, learning, assessment and other support strategies that need to be in place for each individual SEND learner.
- Ensure that centre managers, learner and progression advisers are fully aware of the learning, social, and personal development needs of each individual SEND learner.
- Work in collaboration with centre managers to coordinate the work of a team of learning support assistants.
- Liaise with local authority SEND teams regarding EHCP learner referrals, learner progress, annual reviews and progression support.
- Support and collaborate with teaching staff in adapting course curriculums to meet the needs of SEND learners.
- Support and collaborate with teaching staff in developing teaching, learning and assessment strategies to meet the needs of SEND learners.
- Oversee the ongoing tracking and recording of learner progress.
- Identify and record the accommodations required by SEND learners in examinations.
- Support and collaborate with centre managers and centre staff in meeting the social and personal development needs of SEND learners.
- Promote the personal development of designated learners and facilitate their integration within the wider learner group.
- Ensure that the personal care needs of SEND learners are addressed sensitively and appropriately to a high standard, including personal hygiene, preparing/buying meals and drinks and supporting with any medication in line with guidelines.
- Participate in the recruitment and induction of learners as required.
- Conduct initial assessments of learner needs.
- Participate in the development of individual learning plans (ILPs) and the setting of agreed targets for learners.
- Work closely with Centre Managers, Trainers and Learner and Progression Advisers to ensure that individual learner targets are being monitored and reviewed.
- Liaise as necessary with the parents/carers of designated learners and with other stakeholders who may be involved in their welfare.
- Work with teaching staff and centre staff in promoting positive relationships between SEND learners and the wider learner group.
- In conjunction with Centre Managers, Trainers and Learner and Progression Advisers, maintain a system to record the progress of individual learners.
- Attend and contribute to team meetings.
- Collaborate with Learner and Progression Advisers and other staff to ensure that learners progress to an appropriate destination at the end of their time on programme.
- Undertake training and development as appropriate.
- Undertake administrative duties relating to designated learners and the additional learning support being provided.
- Support the organisation’s quality agenda, following required processes and practices.
- Comply fully with GDPR/data protection requirements.
- Become familiar with, and put into practice, First Rung’s Health and Safety Policy and procedures.
- Become familiar with, and put into practice, First Rung’s Equal Opportunity Policy and procedures.
- Play an active role in all First Rung’s marketing and promotional activities, including PR materials and attending marketing events.
- Take on any other duty reasonably requested by management.
