Healthcare Assistant – 8 hours

British Pregnancy Advisory Service (BPAS) is looking for an experienced healthcare assistant to work part‑time every Wednesday, 08:00 to 16:30, at our unit in Leeds.

The closing date for applications is 11 June 2026.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the care, support and observations of clients before and after treatment, reporting findings to the Registered Practitioners.
  • Assist in the preparation and serving of refreshments.
  • Help check and prepare the operating department environment and equipment prior to use, between clients and at the end of a list.
  • Undertake counts of swabs, instruments and needles with another trained member of the surgical team, and assist during surgical procedures.
  • Understand clients’ individual needs and maintain a helpful, courteous approach to clients, visitors and colleagues.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience working in healthcare, especially in a hospital, GP practice or operating theatre setting.
  • Experience working in theatre and alongside clinicians.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Positive attitude to change and willingness to learn.
  • English and Maths qualification (GCSE A–C or Functional Skills Level 2 or GCSE 4* or NVQ level 2).
  • NVQ Level 3 in health and social care, Diploma in health and support level 3, or Care certificate in healthcare.
  • Comfortable with terminations of pregnancy and observing procedures in theatre.

Details

Salary: £26,403 to £31,868 per annum pro rata (depending on skills and experience) – £13.54 to £16.34 per hour.

Working pattern: Wednesday 08:00 to 16:30.

Location: BPAS Leeds – Unit 5 Landmark Court, Elland Road, Beeston, Leeds LS11 8JT.
