Job Description
At Hitachi Rail, we have an exciting opportunity for a motivated, enthusiastic, and self-driven Lead Technician to join our team at Stoke Gifford Train Maintenance Centre in Bristol.
Salary: £50,041
15% Shift allowance
£3000 Location Allowance
Permanent Contract
About The Role
As a Lead Technician, you’ll play a key role in maintaining and improving our rolling stock. You’ll be responsible for complex fault finding, repairs, and maintenance, ensuring trains remain safe, reliable, and operational. This is a permanent position, working on a rotating day and night shift pattern.
- Maintain safe and effective working conditions across the worksite, materials, and equipment
- Comply with all health, safety, environmental, and quality standards
- Carry out both planned and reactive maintenance activities
- Ensure rolling stock and traction assets meet operational specifications using engineering techniques
- Interpret and extract information from technical drawings and specifications
- Perform removal, replacement, and installation of rolling stock components
- Modify or manufacture components using hand tools and engineering processes
- Assemble components accurately and efficiently
- Identify, assess, and rectify faults and defects in rolling stock assets
- Diagnose repeat faults and propose or implement corrective solutions
- Develop technical scopes of work for wider team fault rectification
- Support reliability improvements alongside reliability technicians
- Provide technical support during in-service failures
- Deliver operational support to end-users of Hitachi rolling stock
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in SAP systems
- Build effective working relationships and contribute to team success
- Continuously develop skills in line with evolving business needs
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders as required
- Undertake additional duties aligned to local operational requirements
Required Skills / Knowledge
- Rolling stock maintenance and fault-finding experience
- Depot Protection
- Working at Height
- Manual Handling
- Competence with powered plant and tools (air / 110v)
- Crimping competence and assessment
Education / Qualifications
- M&E ONC or completed apprenticeship (mechanical/electrical disciplines)
- Engineering-based NVQ Level 3
Behavioural
