Job Description:

Overview

We are seeking a skilled and adaptable individual to carry out maintenance, repair and improvement works across public realm assets, including paths, fencing, benches, bins and play equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect public spaces such as play areas and public conveniences, record defects and carry out responsive repairs, including basic plumbing and carpentry.
  • Respond to urgent issues including vandalism, damage and safety defects, ensuring risks to the public are addressed promptly.
  • Support flood management activities such as monitoring water levels and operating sluice gates when required.
  • Install signage and temporary barriers in line with legislation and safe systems of work, including NRSWA requirements where applicable.
  • Use tools, plant and equipment safely across a variety of maintenance and construction‑related tasks.
  • Work flexibly across different locations and, as part of a rota, undertake regular out of hours and standby call‑out duties.

Qualifications

  • Experience in civil engineering, groundworks, building maintenance or multi‑trade work.
  • Practical skills in carpentry, plumbing or general construction.
  • Good understanding of health and safety requirements.

Working Hours

Full time: 37 hours per week.

Working Pattern

Monday – Thursday 06:00 – 14:30, Friday 06:00 – 12:15 (plus out of hours and standby rota).

Contract

Permanent.

Salary

£32,597 – £36,363 per annum (City Pay Band 4) pro rata for part time.

Location

Cowley Road Operational Hub.
